Mubi Synopsis Plugin

Mubi is a film streaming platform which specialises in independent and emerging cinema. The content is extremely good but the website layout is a little difficult to use. All users are expected to already have a good knowledge of cinema, films are presented as picture tiles in a 'Netflix style' carousel layout, with only the director and title to help you choose between them.

Eventually, I became frustrated at this user experience. In my opinion, for most amateurs, the synopsis will be the most important criterion when choosing a film. I decided to write a Chrome plugin for Mubi which makes a new button appear on the film tile. When this button is hovered over the synopsis is displayed.

I felt that by doing this I could retain the uncrowded and beautiful user experience that Mubi intended as well as displaying the information people need easily, without having to constantly open new tabs.
